Anniesland is a thriving district in the North-West area of Glasgow. Anniesland is a mix of housing, retail and office space. It is home to a large Morrison’s supermarket which is situated near the train station. In 2002, the former Ascot Cinema was converted into flats. The situation of these flats is on the opposite side of the railway lines to Morrison’s.
The area is served by a train route and a number of different bus operators. Anniesland is also home to the tallest listed building in Scotland, Anniesland Court. The building is clearly visible when passing through the area and is lit up at night time with multicoloured “spider” floodlights. Anniesland is home to the privately run High School of Glasgow, which is adjacent to the rugby field where Glasgow Warriors play some of their home games.
Anniesland is also home to two higher education facilities, both Anniesland College and Strathclyde Univerisity’s Campus offer a range of subjects to be studied. Also situated in Anniesland is a Driving Centre where people in the North-West of Glasgow go to try and pass their driving test. For this reason, Anniesland is known as a hotspot for learner drivers trying out their three-point turns and reversing round corners.
The main focus point in Anniesland is the junction between Great Western Road and Crow Road, with heavy traffic through here at rush hour as it serves as the main point for people returning home from the city centre.
